Cats really are mysterious creatures because nobody can figure out why they do what they do. Scientists study their behaviors, habits, likes and dislikes, etc etc. ad nauseam. Each new study ends up with a lot of gobbledygook without any new information.
I picture a team of scientists scratching their heads in a laboratory as cute furry subjects curl around their feet or plop down purring in front of them on their back showing their bellies.
Cat lovers just adore them and somehow seem to possess a gnosis of exactly what their fur babies need from them.
In the 1980s, my pastor and his wife visited me and said not to worry about my cats’ behavior around them. I did as Rev. Woodall requested and fought to keep quiet while one kitten, Bert, aggressively attacked his shoelaces and Ernie crawled over his shoulder determined to thoroughly investigate his eye glasses.
He’d said, “We have two cats, and I’ve concluded there’s only one reason God put them on Earth and that is for us to learn unconditional love!”
To this day, I think of him and his family fondly and remember.
He was a great mentor and friend to my dad who was experiencing depression and a loss of purpose, and I will always be grateful to his selfless service to our family, his church and the community.
I understand he is retired now, but I know he is still in service to the Lord. I believe there are countless families who will remember him for his commitment to faith and family.
