Daryl & The Nanner Pudding

Grandmother could make the very best banana pudding! Just the thought of it brings back memories of exactly how it tasted. So sweet, so distinctive, and that perfectly fluffy meringue on top. I wonder how many of those she baked over the years…

My love for sweets is legendary, and it started at an early age. I’m sure Grandmother’s banana pudding didn’t help matters. Anyway, I was at the parsonage in Carrollton one time which was basically upstairs from the church. I was staying with Grandmother and Grandpa and, some days back, she had made a banana pudding. But before I could get any, Grandpa ate the last bite and I had none.  I was a bit disappointed.

The next time Grandmother made banana pudding, I insisted on eating some first, even before dinner. Of course, Mother was adamant that I eat dinner first, but I refused and, as I was told, I “threw a fit.” Apparently I threw such a fit that I earned myself a spanking. But Mother didn’t know at the time why I had been so insistent that I eat dessert first.
