I hope I have the right holiday in mind. If I don’t, someone please correct me. But every year, Harold White (Bennie’s brother) would host a fish fry at his and Diane’s lake. You could come early and fish off his dock, take the boat and or just walk around the lake and fish or … do nothing!
Now Harold was quite the fisherman and he would go to Santee, South Carolina, or anywhere else that had water and fish. He would clean the fish and put them in his freezer and save them for the holiday. Then, he would invite family and friends from all over to come and enjoy the festivities.
Folks would bring their favorite dish, and Harold and Diane would provide a multitude of fish varieties, steamy hot French fries, cole slaw, and more. Of course, Imogene would bring a couple of huge bowls of her famous banana pudding. I can still savor the goodness of her pudding. Anyway, after we all stuffed our faces, Harold usually had singers come up the gazebo and we’d enjoy some good old gospel singing. Then we’d all chip in on the clean up and go home to take our afternoon nap shortly before going to bed!
