Funeral Home Pervert

Adolphus (1894-1980) and Lula (1898-1983) Chance were the precious older couple who attended Oak Hill Church and loved my parents and ME. They were unable to have children, so when Stacy was born, Lula couldn’t wait until we got to service so she could hold my sweet little baby.

Lula and ‘Dolphus were each other’s entire world. She didn’t drive and he was retired so they were together all the time. When ‘Dolphus passed away, Mother and I went to the funeral home to pay our respects and sit with Lula for a while.

I went to the bathroom and, sitting there crying a little, I noticed a very ornate scroll toilet paper holder. I’d never seen one like it so I leaned over to get a better look. In between the scrolls I saw eyes staring at me sitting on the toilet.

Horrified, I jumped in the corner, arranged my clothes and went to find Mother. She actually thought that, because I was a little depressed personally, I was having a nervous breakdown telling her there were “eyes in the wall.”

She excused us and walked back to the bathroom with me. She stooped down at the toilet paper holder, jumped, threw her hand over the toilet paper holder and loudly whispered, “HE’S STILL THERE!!!!”

She took a pencil out of her purse and stuffed toilet paper in the holes. Then we left the bathroom to find the funeral home owner/director.

We found his wife chatting with some visitors. After hearing our story, she gave us a dirty look and said, “Nobody is spying on you in the bathroom!” And she walked away.

Well! That did not sit too well with me OR Mother! This was an extreme invasion of privacy not to mention a serious breach of the law. Mother and I left and headed straight for the Villa Rica Police Department. We told them what had happened and headed home.

A few days later, I was with Mother, and I called the Police Department to find out the status of our complaint.

To make a long story short: once a pervert, always a pervert. The funeral home owner wasn’t arrested the night we complained, but he was several years later. He similarly offended the wrong person with clout who was able to almost put him out of business. He lost his reputation and remained a struggling business for years. I don’t even care enough to check but I am sure he has passed by now.
