Circa 1968, I was really upset with Governor Lester Maddox. He had made a ruling that affected me, and I was not happy about it.
I called the Governor’s office and told whoever answered the phone that I wanted to speak to Governor Maddox. At the time, I was too young to realize how amazing it was that he was on the phone within seconds.
He listened politely as I explained that it wasn’t fair for people who could drive and had cars who could leave at lunch and go to the DQ while the rest of us had to brown bag it or suffer. He told me not to worry and he would certainly check into this issue.
About two years later, Douglas County Schools started serving hamburgers.
You’re welcome!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
BTW: Gov. Maddox was speaker at my HS graduation which ended up being at Temple High.
