When I was the secretary at Temple high School years and years and years ago, and one elective students could take was office aide to me. LOL many days, they were just able to sit at a desk pulled up next to mine and they could study.
Back then, $20 was a LOT of money ($170 today). And one day, I had $20 in my pocket. Actually, in those days, we dealt mostly in cash because if I remember correctly we didn’t even have debit cards in those days. ATMs were not introduced until a few years later.
Anyway! At the end of the day, my $20 was missing. I admit I was a little devastated. But I didn’t report it because I have no idea who might had taken it. The students who spent time in my office as an aide were kids I trusted. But there was one aid whose family I knew struggled and that he was having a hard time. I kind of suspected but never said anything.
About a week later, I got my purse to go to lunch, and there was $20 sitting just inside my purse. I looked at the aid I suspected and he just had the biggest smile on his face and mouthed, “Thank you!” Nothing else needed to happen. I figured this kid must have then in a situation I hope he was never in again.
