Before my daughter, Stacy, met her soulmate (and my wonderful son-in-law), she had been a Delta flight attendant.
I was living in Nashville when she invited me to use a “mom pass” on her line from Atlanta to Minneapolis. We would have dinner and spend the night. After lunch the next day, she would leave for another assignment, and I would fly back to Nashville.
I was so excited and jumped at the chance to be able to do that with her.
Having worked at Delta myself, I knew that non-rev passengers were asked to be as invisible as possible so others wouldn’t know they were flying for free.
During the flight, everyone was so nice and VERY attentive. I assumed Stacy had mentioned to her teammates that I was her mom. It was a lot, but I was very flattered that they liked Stacy well enough to do that for me.
Then, I learned the REAL reason…
After about the fifth time an attendant had come to check on me, Stacy came up and whispered, “Mom!!!! You’re leaning on the call button!”
Good times… Good times…
Here’s something that is very telling about how I feel about my daughter. I had always been a chicken flyer. I did it for work. I did for fun to go to amazing places. But flying was always very scary to me (unless it was at night when I couldn’t see the ground lol).
While Stacy was a flight attendant, I was never once uncomfortable or afraid to fly. I think it was because I couldn’t handle the thought that my daughter would be doing anything dangerous, so in my mind, flying became very safe! Don’t know if that makes sense or not, but It’s true!
