Before my daughter, Stacy, met her soulmate (and my wonderful son-in-law), she had been a Delta flight attendant.
I was living in Nashville when she invited me to use a “mom pass” to fly on her work scheduled flight from Atlanta to Minneapolis. We could have dinner and spend the night. After lunch the next day, she would leave for another flight and I would fly back to nashville.
She made arrangements for me to fly from Nashville to Atlanta to connect the flight she would be working before we flew to Minneapolis.
I knew from having worked at Delta myself that non-rev passengers were asked to be as invisible as possible so others wouldn’t know they were flying for free.
Once, she invited me to use my “mom pass” to fly with her on her work scheduled flight from my-then-home-Nashville to Minneapolis. I loved it!
During the flight, everyone was so nice and very attentive. Then, I found out why…
After about the fifth time an attendant had come to check on me, Stacy came up and whispered, “Mom! You’re leaning on the call button!”
Good times… Good times.
Here’s something that is very telling about how I feel about my daughter. I had always been a chicken flyer. I did it for work. I did for fun to go to amazing places. But flying was always very scary to me (unless it was at night when I couldn’t see the ground lol).
While my daughter was a flight attendant, I was never once uncomfortable or afraid to fly. I think it was because I couldn’t handle the thought that my daughter would be doing anything dangerous, so in my mind, flying became very safe! Don’t know if that makes sense or not, but It’s true!
